About the Author

Robert Libby is the David A. Thomas Professor of Accounting and Accounting Area Coordinator at Cornell University, where he teaches the introductory financial accounting course. This book did not come with the online code.This was required by my class. Ended up returning the book and having to purchase the book online from the publisher because it took so long.

The paperback edition did not come with the Connect code.

This was a required text, of course. But it was exceptionally well written and I learned more from reading the book than from class lectures or assignments. Additionally, the binding and other quality aspects were top notch.I did not buy or is the optional "CONNECT" feature, and still learned everything just fine from the text. Just make sure your professor has the answers for you.

This textbook is up-to-date and met the needs as it was required for the class. Some explanation and examples could be better explained.

Most annoying textbook. I found accounting courses on course era much easier to follow. As someone mentioned, the pages are full of text including the margins and the exhibits are on seperate pages from the text. I am only reading it because my professor recommended it.

Breaks everything down in simple terms. Great examples and lots of explanation!

Easy to read and helpful for understanding basic accounting concepts.

About the Author

ROSEMARY SUTCLIFF was born in Surrey, England, in 1920, the daughter of a British naval officer. She was the author of four works of nonfiction, an autobiography, four novels for adults, and more than fifty books for children, including the eight volumes of the Eagle of the Ninth series. Sutcliff won many literary awards, including the Carnegie Medal for The Lantern Bearers, and received an OBE and a CBE for her services to children's literature. She died in 1992. CYRIL WALTER HODGES (1909-2004) was an English book illustrator at the height of a distinguished career in the 1950s and '60s when he illustrated some of Sutcliff's early works. Hodges was a leading scholar of the Elizabethan theater and himself the author of a number of books including Columbus Sails and Shakespeare's Theatre, which he also illustrated.

Rosemary Sutcliff's classic, The Eagle of the Ninth, is an amazing tale set in 2nd century Britain during Rome's occupation. It is such a captivating tale, that we used it as part of our daughter's literature curriculum. Because it was written in 1954, the language is very rich and vivid. It helps the reader to imagine the sights and sounds and smells of early history. The story is compelling as you follow Marcus on his quest to find out what really happened to his father's legion and reclaim the honor. There are so many fascinating characters, such as Esca, Marcus's freed slave, and the Romans who chose Britain as their home. It is a beautifully written tale and well researched. Hadrian's Wall, the Roman fortresses, the wildness of Caledonia...all of it came alive in Sutcliff's story.

This is an attractive and solid hardcover, cloth over boards, edition of this book. Seems well bound and paper is of good quality.The story itself is an often recommended fictional history based on the Roman occupation of Britain, particularly a true mystery and an artifact unearthed in more recent excavation. The writing is descriptive and the plot interesting. It is probably above the level of most eight year olds in current society, but read aloud with some explanation it is still written well enough to hold the attention of that age group. Probably better individual reading for the typical thirteen and up reader.Through this story the reader can really see the misty, rainy region of Britain; feel the uncertain peace and ambiguous relationship between the Roman conquerors and the subdued (and not so subdued) tribes of Britain. The reader can understand both sides of the conflict and see into both societies. It is a great book to bring history alive. I particularly appreciate this author for her focus on British history that often is looked over.

I've always been partial to historical fiction with ancient settings, and have been particularly interested in Roman Britain ever since reading Anya Seton's The Mistletoe and the Sword several years ago. Although there is a plethora of fiction set in Roman Britain out there, I have avoided it all assuming that it would be filled with sex, profanity and violence. So when I recently heard about Rosemary Sutcliff's series of novels set in Roman Britain, and that they were written in the 1950s for young adults, I knew I had to give her a try.I was very pleased with The Eagle of the Ninth; so pleased, in fact, that I have ordered the next three books in the series. There are many elements of The Eagle that are indicative of the fact it was written for a young adult audience: the simplicity of the plot; the non-complexity of the characters and their interactions; the relative shortness of the book (200 pages); the focus on a young man and his friendships, as well as his quest to find out the truth behind his father's death and the disappearance of his Legion.But while The Eagle of the Ninth is focused on themes aimed at a younger audience, the author's style is one that will captivate readers of all ages. The focus and tone of the novel should appeal equally to men and women. Her descriptions are lovely and evocative and her language is sophisticated. I recommend keeping a dictionary at hand, as she uses many words and phrases that are unfamiliar to modern readers (or to this reader, anyway). While the meanings of most of them can be approximately determined from the context, if you're a word nerd like me you're probably going to want to look them up.The Eagle of the Ninth is a simple story that is well-written and pleasing. I, for one, am hooked and look forward to reading many more books by this author.

I've been a big fan of Rosemary Sutcliff since I first discovered her, with this book, more than 45 years ago. I bought this for my 13 year old great niece as a Christmas gift. I think Ms Sutcliff is unsurpassed as a writer of historical fiction--with substance--for kids.

When my youngest son was in grammar school, he really disliked reading. He had no patience for it. I made a list of books that I hoped would pique his interest, and I read a chapter each night until we finished several titles I had picked. One of those books was Rosemary Sutcliffe's "Eagle of the Ninth." Sure, he was old enough to read it on his own. But we both looked forward to each evening's chapter.Today, my 21-year-old son is an avid reader with a broad range of interests. These days, I take reading recommendations from HIM.I was very pleased to see that this historic novel has been reissued in a beautiful hardcover edition, complete with illustrations and an attached ribbon marker.The story is a straight-forward adventure involving young Roman officer Marcus, his slave Esca, and a wolf. It takes place in 2nd Century Britain and is based on a true story. This is the first in a series, and it was made into a movie starring Channing Tatum ("The Eagle").Sutcliffe did her homework and the novel makes the ancient world come alive.This book belongs on every child's shelf, and your son or daughter will be able to appreciate this particular edition for many years, long enough to pass on to the next generation.

I had high hopes when this movie came out because I've loved the book since I was a teenager. The movie tampered with the plot to the point where it was hardly recognizable. A couple of key characters were eliminated. Esca's character was changed. And the two main characters go off on their life-threatening mission without even having the plausible cover story they used in the book. This movie is a cartoonish butchering of a beloved classic.

Some good security tips in this book. Not so different from situations in many U.S. areas now. Better to think about this stuff too soon than too late -- worth reading.

The author actually explains how the criminal mind works. I was pleased to see the South African 10111 number frequently quoted, I think that youngsters here in SA are more familiar with the US 911 number!

This book is easy to read for the people with a different first language than English. It is very informative and give you loads of information on personal security, how to secure your house, car, etc. I started reading this on the plane home from SA, and it gave me several answers that I had after the trip. The only stupid thing is that I should have read it on the plane TO SA.

I came away with a better understanding of the criminal mind and how to protect myself. I live in Mexico not Africa but the similarities are obvious.

Casey gives you a true outlook on self preservation and to be aware of what is going on around you. Great true personal stories to give a full picture of what he's tying to explain to you. This book is well put together.

As usual, it's a great book by Olivia. Some real classics here, plus the newer ones. i highly recommend this book, esp if you like the art of Olivia..she's one of my favorite artists..great at drawing women, pinup etc..

Not sure why the author writing questions are asked, but this is an art book showcasing more of the beautiful artwork of Olivia. Some different things here. Glad I got it.

I almost didn't order this book due to the 2 bad reviews but I am very glad that I took the risk. I found it to be wonderful!!! The few different versions of some of the art was actually an added treat for me. I saw no masculine models in this book. I love the Bettie Page art and lovely variety of art in this one. You can't go wrong with this gorgeous collection of Olivia's work!! I am truly inspired!!

I received an amazon giftcard as a Birthday Gift and this is one of the items I purchased. It is in perfect quality and one of the best books I could have gotten. I have become a big fan of Olivia's art and this book showcases it better then anything I have seen before.

My wife has a tattoo based on some of the artwork so we bought the book. A great conversation book if left on the coffee table. Brilliant artist and beautiful women.

They may, as was the case with me, previously have thought they understood the concept or even dismissed the idea entirely.Then, suddenly, when the confrontation occurs, one is left trying to understand what one has experienced, and looking for answers high and low—perhaps in books, perhaps in religion, perhaps in talk with friends and mentors.This is probably the most satisfying resource I've come across on the question of evil in human psychology. Peck doesn't avoid the question or the word; instead, he tackles them head on, proposing that if you've seen it, you understand that evil is real. He seeks to understand what the experience and the quality amount to when articulated through reason, rather than purely through theology.His definition of evil ends up being quite concise, rather than wandering and metaphysical and listless as is so often the case, and more than that, it's a satisfying definition; it rings true to to me, at the very least, as someone that was confronted with the question. The case studies that he provides are fascinating and run the gamut from the individual scale to the nuclear family scale to the social scale.While there isn't much in the way of actionable information presented, I suspect that most people reading on the topic of evil aren't looking for tips and tricks so much as they are trying to come to grips with their own thinking about the topic—to clarify their own experience and make sense of what they've learned and how it's changed the way that they look at the world.If this sounds like you, get this book and read it. If you have difficult people in your life, you should read this book. It's simultaneously a classic yet timely topic. Peck does an excellent job of illuminating just how mundane evil can be, and just how present in can be in our environment, yet in many cases go undetected. Why? Because it looks like a mother, a father, a sibling, a lover.

Scott Peck really does an excellent job of discussing the nature of people who are pathological liars. And he comes back to what I feel is the most prescient point of the book: We are responsible for the reality that we create and we create that reality either with truth or lies. When we create a reality that is based on lies, only pathology can follow and our reality becomes twisted by that.

The best book I've read on toxic family members. I wish he had written more like it. Read this if you have confusing/contradictory people in your life you end up researching to figure out what the heck is up...It's definitely not you as they would like you to believe! Anyone that leads you to research them because of the chaos and confusion they wreak in your life is a toxic individual that is actually amused at the power surge they feel from emotionally and psychologically manipulating you. Their goal is to win and by win I mean emotionally manipulate you whether it's a good feeling or bad feeling it's all with an agenda that is rooted in evil. Evil is the abuse of free will and these are the people that this book describes. A person that is able to chip away at your self worth in such a subtle (covert) way that you think it was all your own ideas/thoughts by the time you wake up one day distraught with self-condemnation and self-loathing. Even if you are non-religious I recommend it for it's insights and unique perspective. I have people in my life this book describes who if I did not have a strong and transparent relationship with God would have totally turned me off of Christianity because of their religious abuse and thinking they can quote scripture at me and take me on guilt-trips through feeling as though I am not forgiven by God or that they somehow have a window into my heart. Only God and I know my heart. And he knows it best. I do not have to live under the condemnation of pretend Pharisaical Christians who think I'm still under the old law. We need to and are warned to stay away from people like this. Psalms 101:4-5,7-8 The people M. Scott Peck describe are truly soul-killers - people out to murder your spirit and self-worth.I hope it's able to help others as much as it helped me. As I mentioned, I wish he had written more books on this topic and I hope the awareness continues so you are able to piece together the trauma from your childhood raising or even just right now if you are currently in it. Highly Recommend!

The evil person sitting outside in the waiting room may be trying to destroy the one who is sitting with the doctor.Great information for anyone who wants to understand if they are associating with an evil person. If you have, you may find them in this book.The part that stuck with me was the simple principle that evil is “live” spelled backward. Evil is the opposite of life and vitality.
