Chock full of great patterns, ideas, designs.Usual front chapter on equipment, how to set up, etc.She does spend a page telling us about her wonderful childhood, and how her ensuing wonderful marriage has also been great. She could have left some of that out. Not all of us were blessed with a wonderful childhood, and due to family, hardships, and other turmoil we had to fight for every bit of happiness we ever received. I bought it for the patterns, and they are great. Didn't need a one page synopsis on how great her life is.Also, she seems to be totally committed to Colwood burners. Personally, I find the Burnmasters much more useful, but all of these renowned pyrographic artists seem to want to tell us which unit they think is best. She prefers the fixed tip pens. That's fine. I like the versatility of the Burnmaster.Overall, one of the best for designs and patterns. If you are already into pyrography, skip the rest.

I purchased Woodburning Project & Pattern Treasury book as a gift. When I received the book I was pleased with the size of the book. The outside cover was well done. The recipient of this book was thrilled. He has just recently began to enjoy woodworking and has found the book very helpful. He has told me the book is easy to understand and has a lot of patterns that he is looking forward to trying. I am so pleased he is happy with the book.

I am new to pyrography, and this was my 2nd book on the subject. This has beautiful patterns in it, easy to copy and follow. I have done 4 projects already and am working on more. I love the fact that there are extra patterns you can add to personalize projects

Deborah Pompano gives a good summary on the tools she recommends from Woodburning.com, but really she should have written down the tool numbers on her recommendation to save the reader some time. I personally searched on line with her recommended company and looking at the sketched drawing, or photo raised a question does this tool match her recommendation? Woodburning.com has all the tools available to do some very fine work if the artist is qualified with the skill to accomplish the different task. In saying that, when you recommend a tool, it only takes an experience person a minute to match the tool with the one recommended as a reference in her book. Not knowing the tool names or there specific use, it took me well over an hour to search and find the tools needed... I based this on no experience or familiarity with the catalog or tools from woodburning.com! Even then I could not find the (FT) Fixed Tip and (RT) Replacement Tips and the cost difference until I sent a message to the company! After I did that, everything became available with the proper index! I am anxious to begin some training as soon as I get my tips oredered. This book is a valued tool if you are a serious person in the adventure of woodburning!

INCREDIBLE book. My bf has taken up wood burning as a hobby and this is by far, his favorite book. It is a great source for beginners and advanced wood-workers. I highly Recommend it.

Never wood burned before. Love woodworking though. Read the book. Bought some cheap basswood to begin with. Followed the very simple directions. And now, I have two very lovely projects completed. It is a blast. I feel like a kid in art class. Sketching has always come naturally to me. Even if it did not, this would work. The method of tracing the patterns onto the wood before one burns is key. By the time one begins to burn the pattern on, they have traced it twice. So, the muscle memory that has developed makes the project turn out easily.Totally impressed by the results and having fun dreaming up new patterns!

This book is a work of art in itself. I feel like I am sitting under a master...although I keep wondering if I have the talent needed to be so creative and not simply copy what someone else has done. I hope I do...we shall see!! Debbie encourages that individual creativity, and shares her own soul in the process. That is what I like. She approaches art, and specifically wood burning, as a reflection of the heart and soul.

- Pro: Functional designsI really like the tri-fold design with the top any-handedness binding and the buffer flap to prevent bleed-through or pencil scoring (especially since the provided pencils are a pretty firm lead).Double "pro" on the buffer - it doesn't reach all the way to the binding, but it does reach past the margins of bordered images, so it's not waiting to create one of those bump-scratch bold marks.- Con: That is REALLY thin binding up at the top.It's going to be easy to pull sheets out (which is a pro-con thing) but if you prefer to leave a book intact rather than deal with loose sheets, this is going to be problematic. You're not going to fold that over the top of the board easily. And, because of the trifold board design, loose sections and loose sheets aren't going to stay contained as easily as a standard sheet.Pro: HUGE variety in imagesComplexity/intricacy vs. simple line images, both scenes and schemes, differing image styles - Something for everybodyPro: Age and guy-girl universalThere are images "serious" colorers and colorists and rendering artists aren't going to be wild about even on a brain-dead just-play day, and there are images that are way too complex for somebody who hasn't bumped up from crayons and fat markers yet, but generally there's something for everybody 3-103, boy or girl, and a LOT for the 5-9 through 95 y/o ranges.There are about 3 images that are distinctly "little girl" (emphasis on "little") in there, and there's 1-2 that just scream "little boy" (again, "little") out of the dozens of others that have universal appeal.Universal appeal is sometimes/regularly hard to do. My first go at the adult coloring books. This one is easy for a beginner. and I did enjoy the respite that the mindless coloring gave me from my usual work regime. I gave it four stars because there are actually just 12 pencils, each with a different color on the opposite end. Not convenient, hard to get them out of the plastic container as well. I bought a larger box of coloring pencils, which I will probably use more.

I was hesitant about this whole adult coloring thing, but figured I'd give it a try. I like the beach theme in this one and at a great price too.This one has some more simple and childish designs as well as some more complex, so I guess it has something for everyone. I just wish there were more of the complex ones.I did enjoy coloring, and felt someone relaxed, so I guess it works. I may get more when I'm done with this one.

Really convenient to have the pencils right in the book. A few of the pictures were too simplistic for me ( for example, 3 ladies sun hats), but over all they were good. It is smaller than most coloring books, but that makes it easy to travel with - especially since the pencils are included. When you fold it open it is sturdy enough that you can color with out placing it on a hard surface. Good for kids in the car.

Loved the coloring book, but pencils seem to color a bit hard.

The colors are on the dull side and many colors seem to be almost the same shade as others. Some of the pages have such small spaces to color, you can't really stay inside the lines.

THE CHRISTIAN LIFE HYMNAL was carefully put together by a mid-South Anglican and released in 2010. It has a great variety of hymns from all regions and worship styles without being excessively "P.C." or "down home." Hymns include "In the Bleak Midwinter," "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms," "Lift Every Voice and Sing," and "God of Our Fathers (NATIONAL HYMN)." I could have stood for the pages to be a wee bit thicker, but at this price I expect it will stay in the market and grace independent-church pews and home pianos for years to come.

We used this hymnal a few years ago when my husband was leading worship at our church. He chose it specifically because of the large selection of Christmas songs. I recently purchased my own copy to use during my daily devotional time and am singing through it only skipping the few that are totally unfamiliar to me.Some of the details that I appreciate are: footnotes that give the meaning of obscure or outdated words, notations that indicate the page to find the music in a lower/higher key with different lyrics, and a short line after the third or fourth stanza when the hymn has six or more verses making it easier to stay on the right line.I especially appreciate being directed to another hymn when the one I'm singing does not have familiar lyrics. An example would be #321, "Singing Songs of Expectation." I have never heard of this hymn, but when I find it is to the melody of #272, "O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus," I can focus on these words and enjoy the richness of their message.Several of the more recent songs and choruses that are becoming classics are included. However, with a copyright date of 2006, the most recent ones will not be found. Since our church sings almost entirely choruses during worship, I am delighting in the depth of meaning found in these hymns that have stood the test of time, some dating back to the 12th century.As you can see from this listing, there is also an accompanist's loose-leaf edition available which includes the chord notations.I would highly recommend this hymnal for personal, family or congregational use. It will greatly enrich your worship experience.

This hymnal is similar in appearance, both inside and out, to our older hymnal which is soon to be retired. It has a good mix of traditional hymns with a tasteful selection of more contemporary ones by authors like Fred Pratt Green, Keith Getty, Stuart Townsend and Twila Paris. One thing that it lacks, however, is scripture resources for choral responsive reading. We use these in our church but could probably get them from a supplement of some kind in our hymnbook racks.

The Christian Life Hymnal was recommended to me by someone on an accompaniment forum who used it at church services because it contains a host of well known songs in different keys. I found it to be a great resource for some lesser known and beautiful arrangements of songs that fit very well into service. I highly recommend it as an addition to a standard musical library of well known hymnals and religious music books.

I am so happy with this hymnal. It has all the classic hymns that I grew up on. I love it!

Some descent info and insights for beginners exploring evolutionary psch, buddhism, etc. I was a bit disturbed by dualistic, atheistic approach and very short-sighted, under- researched views on mental health, spiritualism and diet. Particularly disturbed by total lack of respect given to value of human social connections and families and fact that 95% references to women included sexual innuendo. Another book in disturbing trend from privileged neo-liberals to use Buddhism and pop-science to justify pursuit of self-absorbed, individualistic, atheistic lifestyles. May Jevan continue to question, awaken and find peace and freedom from suffering and delusion.

A lot of books you read, especially self-help books, make you excited for about three weeks and then slowly but surely you find yourself right back where you started – doing the same ordinary routine, looking for the next tidbit of wisdom to get your juices flowing again.Not this one. This book will resonate long after you’ve finished. The stories illuminate, the ideas are clearly explained, and from as early as page 20, you’ll start reconsidering your life choices.I’ve spent an unhealthy portion of my life cynical about happiness, walking around with an argument stuck in my head. This book pulled me out of that. I don’t know if I’ll go back to that, but it’s been three weeks already, and I’m still meditating, still thinking positively, and still challenging my thoughts. Not too shabby.

I wanted to like this book, I was hoping for a fresh take on some unoriginal ideas. As an anthropology major, it was difficult to read some of the anecdotes that the author is trying to correlate with causation. I realize this isn't a textbook, but still, the sweeping, oversimplified, and almost problematic ideas posited by the author are almost laughable at times. Sprinkled throughout, there are so many derogatory references to women, I honestly can't believe this book in this form was approved by an editor. I sincerely feel the author didn't mean to purposefully come across this way, but that is almost shocking because it's so diametrically opposed to some of the bigger concepts in his own writing. I'm not a prude by any means, but the remarks and stories seem to serve no literary purpose, reminded me of high school locker room talk. I don't normally read many reviews prior to reading a book, but this was so bad, I couldn't wait to find out if my opinion was in the minority, thankfully, others seem to agree. If the topics in this book interest you, there are many many better examples to be found. Sadly, this is a poorly researched, watered down, juvenile attempt at trying to explain some honestly good concepts, it really doesn't do them the justice they deserve.

The most exciting thing about this book is its process of steering one's attention towards pragmatic buddhist meditation practice. Many people lead physically healthy and nutritious lifestyles but make little to no time for their mental well-being. I imagine this book will bridge that gap for a lot of people. You may be frustrated to learn (as I was) the reasons why many of our physical and mental illnesses were virtually non-existent in the bodies of our hunter-gatherer ancestors. And you thought it was purely genetics!Traditional dogmatic buddhist or highly sensitive politically correct readers may sneer at Pradas' relaxed approach and his casual yet witty sexual references. This book isn't for you. But! You should read it, don't bother wasting time on the trolling review and send it to a friend or family member who might live a better life and gain some understanding into why you spend so much time on the cushion.

Addresses modern problems that need to be examined but way too many often unrealistic stories about how happy our hunter gatherer ancesters must have been. Seriously, a tribe was laughing when they saw their huts get blown away in a storm. Also Pliny the historian was greek? Please. Like I said, modern society has a boatload of systemic problems as shown but the high substance and suicide epidemics, but this book just doesn't really do it.

Jevan, the author, tells several fascinating stories of how some humans used to live to feel powerful wellness, happiness, and peace. These stories include accounts of the social customs of modern and historical hunter-gatherer tribes and how they differ sharply from similar customs in modern Life.Reading this book alone has filled me with awe and appreciation for what a truly fulfilled life can feel like, and the the advice and discussion he has up to the very last page is all the info needed to get there.

I won’t spoil any of he details, but this book wasn’t the ultimate bait and switch. A good portion of it was no surprise, as I study a lot of evolutionary biology. However, the second half of the book was an amazing ultimate change of discussion. It is BEYOND worth the read.Even as someone who knows much of the info in this book as both a pro-paleo diet advocate and meditator, it still gave me some interesting insight into some information that I had not realized. All can say is, read it. Some will get more from it than others, but still a fantastic book.

I don't know if his anthropological take on hunter gatherers is that salient. I think it's overly romanticized. And it's always suspect when the theme is leaving civilization to make contact with the noble savage. Whether that simple and benevolent society is healthier than not. Leave them alone. With that said, the personal voyage that the author takes with his curiosity and honesty is valuable. The way he weaves a way of life through his insights, travels and dialogues with masters and novices is inspiring. I've read the book nearly everyday. Towards the back of the book are action items on meditation. There is the challenge. Let me get to the work of quieting my mind, eating for joy and living in ecstasy. Then I'll follow up with another review. In the end that's what's great about the book. He's asking you to try something, not to believe it. Do it.
