Let's just start with the fact that, according to the copyright page, "This book is no way authorized, endorsed or affiliated with Pokemon, Pokemon Go or Nintendo." Please note, that the grammar mistakes are as they appear in the book. They go on to add "Authors of this book want to develop Children Alphabet without any harm to Nintendo Property." I swear, the best part about these knockoff how-to-draw/coloring books that Amazon sells are the nonsensical legal disclaimers written in broken English. But Enough of that. Let's get to the book.So the book says that it has "All 1st Generation Pokemons." There's a couple things wrong with that statement. The first is that anyone who knows anything about the Pokemon franchise knows that the plural of Pokemon is Pokemon, so right there in the title I'm already seeing reason to doubt that these guys know what they're doing. The second problem is that it isn't true. It's almost true, but not quite. Instead of Charizard they have Mega Charizard Y, which is from generation 6. If they had left out something like Porygon or Exeggcute I wouldn't care quite as much, but Charizard is quite possibly the most iconic gen 1 Pokemon after Pikachu. To screw up Charizard requires an exceptional degree of laziness, incompetence and ignorance of the franchise. If Charizard is your favorite Pokemon (as he is with my nieces and nephews) prepare for disappointment.Those issues aside, will the book actually teach you to draw Pokemon? Not really, no. The instructions are absolutely horrible for one simple reason: They try to do each Pokemon, no matter how simple or complex, in five steps. It doesn't matter if it's the very simple Voltorb or the very complex Venusaur, it's always five steps. They also don't make an effort to show what is added or taken away in each step. You just have to figure it out yourself. If you look at the cover photo you can see the examples of Machop, Pidgeotto and Magikarp, which all start off with multiple complex shapes in the first step. An experienced artist might be able to make use of this, but a small child won't be able to replicate it. Most likely kids will either end up using this as a coloring book or just trace the finished illustrations, which won't help them learn to draw in the slightest.The only redeeming feature that this book has it that, aside from Charizard, it does have all the 1st gen Pokemon. For an adult this might make for a decent visual reference, but for a child I really can't recommend it.
The book is everything my son has been wanting. It's perfect. The reason for the 4 stars is that my package was completely open as if someone cut open the envelope to see what was in there! I'm just glad it was only the book and it seems untouched and not damaged.
My great-nephew want books on how to draw and at his10th birthday party it just happen to be a Pokemon party.He and sister both enjoyed the the book very much.

I don't think it really helps much more than just looking at a picture of the Pokemon you want to draw. The "steps" aren't really helpful.
This book I bought for my grandson and he absolutely loves it. It was filled with easy directions and great pictures. That made a big difference to my grandson because he didn't think he was going to be able to copy the characters.
This book is very detailed in its instruction for the pokemon. I was tgrilled and so was my son.
