Jacqueline Winspear is the author of several New York Times bestsellers in her historical fiction series featuring Maisie Dobbs. She has won numerous awards for her work, including the Agatha, Alex, and Macavity awards. She was born and raised in the county of Kent in England. September 1940 England is going it alone under daily bombardment from the Germans during the Blitz. I have been an avid reader of this series and was delighted to find this story is wonderfully executed and tremendously enjoyable. You truly do not need to read the previous books in the series to enjoy this novel. I put a little background below (no spoilers). I have enjoyed all in the series, some are 5 stars others 4 or 3 stars, and this was a 5 star read. It's a nicely convoluted plot that eventually involves the The US ambassador to great Britain, Nazi sympathizer Joseph P. Kennedy.Book one: Maisie Dobbs got her start as a maid in an aristocratic London household when she was thirteen. Her employer, suffragette Lady Rowan Compton, soon became her patron, taking the remarkably bright youngster under her wing. Lady Rowan's friend, Maurice Blanche, often retained as an investigator by the European elite, recognized Maisie’s intuitive gifts and helped her earn admission to the prestigious Girton College in Cambridge, where Maisie planned to complete her education. The outbreak of WW1 in 1914 changed everything. Maisie trained as a nurse, then left for France to serve at the Front, where she found—and lost—an important part of herself. I’m writing this review on my iPad because I’m traveling so it might be a bit shorter than my usual reviews. (Ever write a long review on an iPad? It’s not easy!)“The American Agent” is the 16th in author Jacqueline Winspear’s “Maisie Dobbs” series. She’s also written one stand-alone novel. While I felt the first eight or nine in the series were well written, Winspear’s next few seemed to be mediocre. Did she “lose interest” in her character? That often happens in long running series books. I know I wasn’t the only reviewer who noticed; it must get increasingly difficult to crank out a good novel when you’re writing one a year or so. In any case, Winspear’s work began improving a couple of books back.One of the best things about the Dobbs series is how Winspear moves her characters up in age and circumstance as the series proceeds. Having started Maisie off in early post-Great War England, her 16th book is set in those oh-so dangerous months of 1940 as Germany has begun the Blitz bombing of London and other major British cities. Maisie is still running her detective agency and seems greatful to turn up every morning to find her office intact from the previous night’s bombings. She is also working as an ambulance driver during the raids. One evening the two work with an American war correspondent named Catherine Saxon. Saxon is trying to break into the male-dominated world of radio corespondents, as dominated by Edward Murrow and William Shirer. Unfortunately, Catherine was found murdered in her rooms the following day and Maisie is asked by Scotland Yard and an American agent she had previously worked with in Germany to find the murderer.Now Maisie’s inquiry turns into possible war secrets exposure. Jacqueline Winspear’s writing is adept as she describes those horrible months as England is being pounded from the air, all while waiting and hoping for America’s entry into the war. Winspear gets the Americans reluctance to aid Britain with both war materiel and fighting bodies. The book is good and I think Winspear’s long running readership should like this novel.

They say that there is books that speak to you on a personal level, well this one did it for me. I was in a new place in life recently divorced and learning how to be a single mom. It spoke to me on so many levels and for the first time in years I had finally found a way to really start healing me and learning how to shut the door on my inner mean girl that had been I control for far to long! If you are struggling with talking down to yourself, start here. The soul shares and little homework assignments you’ll find inside will have you on the road to a happier place before you know it. To date I’ve read this book seven times, and know I’ll read it again.

 The entire book is filled with game changing take aways. It's hard to pick becuase they are all my favorite! But these are the Top 5 that come to mind as I start to "create a heart centered life that is authentic to me!"1. Once you start to act from love, you only look for things that bring love. Fear losen it's grip in everything you do.2. Start by Looking for what is causing resistance, and deal with that with love.3. You are so worthy of eating healthy and amazing meals. Your body only deserves the best! Stop to Look to see what it's really about when your eating out of fear!4. Mediatation is essential and a must.5. Self love menu is fun and I deserve it!There are so many more! Melissa has a way with words that make it easy to relate! Highly recommend this wonderful book!

I wasn't sure what to expect when I began reading this book (which is good as I am trying to rid myself of expectations), but I knew I needed a change in the way I think and interact with the world. While at first I found myself a bit resistant, I found both my mind and my heart expanding as I continued to read and process the book. I felt myself transition from a place of willful resistance to a place of more willing openness and acceptance. Melissa's message of living life from a place of love has hit me hard and made me realize just how deep my fear was and how I often let it rule my thoughts, emotions and responses. This book feels like the start of a longer journey for me, as I am truly ready to embrace my own self acceptance and abundance mindset. I highly recommend this book to anyone else feeling like they are ready to tackle their negative self dialogue for good!

I've finally found the courage to write this review. I've read the beautiful messages and learnings in Melissa's book a month ago. She has truly helped me shift the black shadows that I've hid under most of my life. I'm a survivor of familia sex trafficking and have lived in struggle and shame for the past 4 decades. I've spent more than 20 years of my life in intense therapy. This book has helped me shake-off the darkness that I've carried to finally rebuild and re-love myself after being crushed by my past. I'm moving forward with a fulfilled life, now imparting hope and happiness for other women. Thanks Melissa for stepping out from your raw and honest self-love journey to lift the hearts and minds of women like me. I highly recommend this book if you're looking to rebuild, rethink and revitalize your life!

It's an okay self help book. Nothing I haven't read before. Kinda cheesy but good for someone who's just getting into self help books.

So this book is interesting. Although I don't relate to Melissa Ambrosini in every single way I was able to see her meaning behind a lot of what she wrote and it was super helpful. I made my own journal of notes I got from the book and it has helped me immensely. It's not something that's going to change you overnight ofcourse but this book is an amazing 1st step to bettering yourself if you find yourself having any kind of problems. I personally broke down to the point of feeling broken and helpless and I figured out I needed to better myself if I wanted my life to get any better. I like the way this book really got down to my level and I highly recomend it to anybody that thinks they could use some self guidence.

I'd like to thank an Instagram post by a celebrity a few weeks ago for bringing Melissa Ambrosini on my radar. When I saw that Melissa had a book coming out I immediately pre-ordered it. Fast forward to yesterday when I happily saw the book appear on my Kindle. I had known about things like affirmations and gratitude before, but the way Melissa conveys the information in the book is done in such a loving way. I feel like I'm sitting down to have coffee with a friend. I love that her actionable steps are things I feel like I can really do in my every day life, and I love that she takes the time to share her own personal story with us. I think both men and women of any age can get a lot from this book. If you've ever thought, "I don't think I deserve such and such" or "why is everything going wrong in my life?" stop what you're doing and get this book. I also love that Melissa also has some guided meditations which she references in the book.I will say that I'd prefer to have this book in paperback rather than Kindle because I've bookmarked many pages, and it's easier to flip back through all of them in paperback.

I like some points in the book but i def don't like how there is one point made and then it goes in circles over and over and over and beats the point like a dead horse. If you dont mind receptiveness- there are some good gems of reminders in there that sometimes you need a reminder to hear.

I stumbled upon this book when I was struggling to find help for a concussion that resulted from a fall. My main symptom was insomnia that could not be relieved by any of the doctors I had seen. When I stumbled on Dr. Maud's three-step treatment plan for healing, outlined in her book, I nearly fell over. The first step of her solution described my situation perfectly and I knew I had to find a cranial osteopath. I ended up being treated by Dr. Maud herself, but in the meantime, the book offered practical things to do and gave a greater understanding to what was going on with my TBI. Her work was profound and after four months of not sleeping and the cascade of associated problems that come with that, I am back to almost 100%. Where other practitioners deemed my case "complicated" or "complex", Dr. Maud said I was "routine & straightforward". I recommend this book if you are not finding answers for your medical issue, and wish to look elsewhere for help. This book and Dr. Maud will give you hope and healing.

What can I say that would convince every physician or better yet every health care professional to buy and read this information? I have been sick for the past 10 years and I have researched extensively the field of pain and trauma. I have read tens of books on the topics. Excellent book. Arrived promptly. I read this book (from the library) before I bought it, and I knew it would be worth having!

I have always loved creative writing, and I think that like me, anyone who enjoys writing entertains the thought of writing a book at one point or another. I began thumbing through this at a bookstore one afternoon and was sold on it in about 30 seconds.The authors of this book are realistic - they know that when people sit down and begin to write, the journey begins to look quite daunting and many give up after a few lines or pages. There is a lot to learn, to think about, to research. They want you to give it the old college try, as they say, so this book is here to help you and make it a bit more fun along the way! This "how to" helpers guide gives tips on making your own space to write in, finding your "voice" and genre, keeping journals for ideas and to fan those artistic flames, literary terms, and even some writing seminars to attend and publishers of children's literature.The tone of any advice in this book is firm but reassuring. Don't expect to get overnight results or quit your job for instant fame and success, but DO work hard and have fun while you're crafting your masterpiece, and something great may come of it. With any luck and this book by my side, who knows? Maybe I'll turn out the next "Harry Potter" series. :o)

This book gives you very basic information on how to write and publish a children's book. There are much better books out there that are more comprehensive. I could only suggest this book as an introduction, if that, to the world of children's book writing.

This book was way to vague to help me in getting started. I would classify it as more of an "about the industry" book than a book that deals with the creative process. Admittedly, I am not a book writer but isn't that what this book is designed for? The publishing companies section is very outdated. Wasted my money on this one as an impulse buy in the store. Learned my lesson, Always read the reviews!

Unfortunately, the book was too vague to really assist novice writers. Also, what should have been most valuable, the list of Publishing Companies, was very outdated.This was a waste of my money.

This is a good book for helping a beginner writer think about allof the elements of the writing process and industry. There aregood pointers, but you will not find very specific answers here.

Prior to reading this book I had done a fair bit of research into online brokers and having studied economics & accounting at university and worked in the fund management industry several years ago thought I had most of it covered. I was wrong. The thing about the internet is that all the information you need is there but if you don't know what you are looking for you won't find it. That is where this book excels. It tells you what you should be looking for AND points you in right direction to find further information as well as the tools you need for investing. Topics covered include; tracking your investments for performance results and tax purposes, the brokers and account types out there, analysis into the general workings of the stock market, asset allocation, stock screening tools, insider trading monitoring and a host of other tools and topics. The thing I really like about this book is that most of these books are written by people who have a financial interest in advising people or work for companies that do. Matt Krantz works for USA Today, yet despite the information and tools it offers, you never felt he was pushing you towards his companies site over any other. In fact if USA Today was mentioned at all, it was always after a number of other online resources which I liked.

I bought this book a few months back, and recently decided to get into investing online. I think it's a great book, very informative. I constantly refer to it to make sure I'm doing things right. If you're wanting to start investing online, check this book out. I'm a former US Marine Infantryman, so if I can understand it, a 5 year old can! Not too much fancy talk in there, so it's easy to follow. They should rename the book to "Investing Online for DUMMIES and MARINES".All joking aside, if you want a good "starter" book, check this book out. Like I said, I recently decided to actually invest, and I'm enjoying it.

I read this in about 1 week. The layout of the book is awesome allowing you to jump around as you need. The information is easy to understand but comprehensive enough to give you a firm grasp of the topic at hand. I am new to the investment world and have bought some more of this series to start my introduction to personal finance and wealth.

The book is easy to understand and thoroughly covers all investments. It is a reference book for me because it gives web sites where additional information and further examples may be obtained. It is very easy to read and is not boring at all.

I purchased this book for a friends daughter for Christmas. She loves to draw and enjoys drawing animé characters so I thought this would be perfect for her, and something a little more advanced that she can grow into. Once I received it, I thumbed through it to see what it was like. I loved what I saw so much, that I decided to order a second one for myself.I'm not a professional artist at all. I simply enjoying drawing when the mood strikes me. I don't draw from basic forms, like this book gives as step by step instructions, I draw from the finished product. In this case, I chose either the final pencil sketch or the colored version for my drawing. I read that some reviewers didn't feel it gave enough detail and instruction, but I didn't need it. I love it and might order the other books in the series some day in the future.

Another book that was pretty good for inspiration for a artist that is already familiar with drawing figures and clothing. It's quite intuitive and easy to pick up, it shows you every step to get to the final masterpiece.If you enjoy drawing and want to learn how to draw new creatures I would recommend this book.

From the first lines to colorized drawing, this is a great tutorial book. You will find help with the sketch and the colors. Both beginners and intermediate Manga artists will benefit from this wide ranging book.

Prior to getting this one, "Girls", and "Boys", I had two books from Ikari Studio. Now I have more in my arsenal of improving my drawing. This is, and other books by Ikari Studio, are must haves for those who love to draw anime and manga style!
